Spotlight on a service – Research and development

Research and development

August 1, 2025

Mark, from our Trust’s research and development team has popped together a few words about the service just to make us all more familiar with who they are and what they do before our new research course is launched. You can find out more about the research course in India’s blog here. In the meantime, enjoy reading Mark’s words below…

Research and development was set up in 2012 to offer opportunities to service users, families, carers and staff to take part in research that they might be interested in. Research is important to the Trust as it provides a scientific evidence base that can potentially improve the lives of others through treatments or service development.

We have a number of study opportunities at any one time, including studies that we host from Universities and those from members of our own staff. We also have academic support from Professor Mike Doyle, University of Huddersfield and Dr Luise Morino. Both Mike and Luise host their own studies.

Our studies cover a range of mental health and physical health services and include all ages. We aim to be as inclusive as possible with all of the studies we support in offering opportunities to individuals from different backgrounds. Some of the work we support has previously been offered in different languages.

The research team has gradually evolved and currently has  22 members within the team! These include academic, medical, governance, research, clinical and interventionist colleagues. We also offer support to staff who might be interested in developing their own research ideas/careers or becoming involved with some of the research that is currently available.
