Helen’s blog – part 2

Welcome to the second part of my blog.

In this part I’d like to share a bit more about what Becca, Vicky and I do as a Peer Support Workers in the Insight Team, and how we work with those who are under the service to develop trust through sharing our experiences. This is such an Important part of what we do and can really make a difference to those who are struggling.
Vicky and I facilitate a group for people who hear voices. What we think makes this group so unique is that people don’t need to be under the Insight Team or mental health services to come along- anyone can attend who hears voices or has any other unusual experiences. These experiences could include visions, strange sensations- maybe on the person’s skin and tasting or smelling things that other people can’t.

The people who attend the group have said they find talking about their experiences with other members who also have them really helpful. It’s a relaxed, friendly group, where we support each other and chat about different methods people have found that help with their voices and visions. We also sometimes have mindfulness sessions, have teamed up with local artists for creative sessions and were also visited by the Trust’s canine befrienders team. Everything we do at the group is guided by what members feel would be helpful.
