A week in the life of…Macy

Hi, I’m Macy! A second year social work student currently completing my first placement at the Recovery College. Here’s an insight of what a typical week on placement looks like for me.
I work 8–4, and my days usually begin with a morning Teams meeting, where the team connects, shares updates, and supports one another before the day starts.
My role includes responding to emails, updating course materials, creating student handbooks, co-facilitating and occasionally covering the college phones to support individuals with questions. I also complete Individual Learning Plan appointments over the phone and take part in a range of shadowing opportunities, which have helped me understand the different roles within the social work profession.
As my placement comes to an end, I’ve been focusing on finalising tasks, reflecting on my learning, and handing over my work to my colleagues. Overall, the Recovery College has been an incredibly positive first placement, and I’m extremely grateful to have learned alongside such a supportive and inspiring team 😊
