Summer Solstice

Ryder

July 15, 2025

Our resident poet and volunteer Ryder (who’s work you will have seen if you receive our newsletter), kindly put together two poems for us about the recent summer solstice that we wanted to share with you.

Take a mindful moment out of our busy days to imagine yourself there with us whilst reading the words Ryder has written.

SOLSTICE 1

Awaiting

Watching

As the sun moves slowly onto the horizon

Silence

As the minutes tick by

A new dawn arises

Man feels alive

Re energised

But not greater than the universe

The sun reaches its peak

Above the stones of an ancient henge

Everyone joins together for this moment

All equal

No divisions

Shame it only lasts a moment

Summer begins

SOLSTICE 2

Early dawn breaks

And the sun on the horizon wakes

Each shadow lights

As darkness takes flight

The early morning cold fades

Gone are the remaining shades

Over henge and hill

The summer sunlight spills

The minutes tick by

As the sun slowly climbs the sky

The ancients they say

Celebrated midsummer day

The longest day of the year

Always brings good cheer

Enjoy the bright summer light

Dispelling the cooler darker night.
